Catherine Reece

Catherine Reece has been working in clay for more than 13 years, five of them as a full
time artist. She has her own studio in her home in Northern California and travels around the
western United States doing art fairs selling her work. Among her many accomplishments are
raising two children while running her own business and numerous awards for her unique pottery.

As a child art was always a part of her life.  She took several different art classes in college
including photography, graphic design, printmaking and ceramics. It wasn’t until a few years
later that she focused on pottery and never looked back.    It took a few years to develop her
unique style and vision. “ I got tired of the traditional dip and dunk method of doing pottery.”
She says,  “ I began looking at my pottery as a blank canvas that I could draw on.    Seeing
a dragonfly on a trip to Wisconsin transformed my work.  God made each insect unique. I feel
compelled to draw them and tell their stories.”.

She and her husband are committed to environmental issues. The pottery they make is fired in an
electric kiln which draws more than eighty percent of its power from the sun via solar panels
on their roof. They also drive a truck that runs on recycled vegetable oil.

"It is a joy," she says doing the pottery and getting many compliments from her fans. "It's nice to
hear people saying that my pottery makes them happy."
