Peter Alsen, Whimsey at its Best

Peter Alsen is a potter from Idleyld Park, Oregon. He and his wife, Lynn, work together to create whimsical animal shaped vessels
and large Raku vases. They specialize in bright colors with crackle glazes.

Peter studied pottery on a fine arts scholarship at the University of Oregon. He lived and worked in the Pacific Northwest for several
years. His job took him to Georgia in 1990, where he worked full time for a large engineering firm. Engineering was his career, but
pottery has always been his passion. Upon retiring he and his wife moved back to Oregon.

Many of the animal shapes evolved from Peter and Lynn's travels. Armadillos come from touring South Georgia, toucans from
Brazil and Costa Rica, puffins from Iceland, and bulls from Spain. Peter often sculpts zoo animals into whimsical and unusual positions
and then glazes them in outlandish colors.
